The McDonald's Croatia site was a heavily customised WordPress build done by Hi-tech — meta fields, custom post types, all of it. Post-launch, the client decided the homepage needed to be more fabulous. A designer colleague and I brainstormed and landed on a slider, but not an ordinary one: it spans the full page width, and each slide carries its own background colour that affects the whole page — not only the slider tile — so moving between slides feels like moving between rooms. Some slides also carry a supplementary "upper" slide layered over the base, most often used for video content.

2019 edit: McDonald's Croatia has since redesigned. The original slider lives on only as a screencast.
